The Fall of Brekhan
Creating Scrolls
Scrolls are modified version of charms, following similar rules. The ritual for a scroll is the same as the spell it will cast, with the addition of a lesser control magic effect. This extra effect does not change the fundamental ritual of the spell, meaning grimoires and ritual mastery will provide their bonus to the casting. Note the margin of success for a scroll when it is created and use that success for resisted rolls.
It takes 30 minutes of work to prepare the scroll to be written on, which must be done immediately before the scroll is written. The process of writing a scroll is the same as gathering energy; it takes 5 minutes per roll and any failure adds a quirk to the spell. The supplies for writing a scroll include small amounts of precious metals and materials gathered in the wild, with rarer materials needed for more powerful spells. The cost for paper and materials is 5 SP per energy used in the spell and can be obtained in most cities or special ordered in large towns. Scroll paper weighs 20 scrolls worth to the pound, with any amount of additional supplies (ink, powered pearl, etc.) weighing no more than 1lb.
High quality equipment for scroll writing can improve your chance to write the scroll, as well as a high quality workshop. These come with increased prices and are rarely available for purchase without specifically seeking them out.
